Q. RefWorks is asking me for a "group code". What is this? How can i find my group code?
A. Each university has a distinct group code that must be used to access RefWorks at another institution. The group code can be obtained by clicking on "forgot my password", and entering the email address you used to establish the RefWorks account. The email you receive will contain your current username and password, as well as your group code. McMaster students use the group code: RWMcMasterU
Q. I can't seem to find a way to export records within Pubmed to RefWorks.
A. Some Databases do not provide for the direct export function to citation management software like
RefWorks. In Pubmed you will need to manually export your records to a text file in order to import into RefWorks. You can do this by performing the following steps:
- Perform your search in Pubmed. When completed, select the records you wish to export. Switch the "Display" drop-down menu from "Summary" to "MEDLINE".
- On the "Send to" drop-down select "Text".
- In your browser, select: file > save page as. Save the page as "Text Files" and give the file an appropriate name.
- In RefWorks, select "References" and "Import". For the "Import Filter/Data Source" select "NLM Pubmed". "Browse" and import the text file you exported in steps 1 - 3.
